Name Change and Banner Reveal for Rockaway Parkway Merchants Corridor Association

The press event and banner unveiling took place on Friday, June 23rd. Despite the rainy weather, we were determined to celebrate a significant milestone. With the support of everyone who joined us, we accomplished our goal. The banners have been a project in progress for a few months now. This project was made possible by a grant provided by the Small Business Services and its partnership with The Mayor’s Office of Equity. To support our district marketing efforts, we have installed 36 banners located on Rockaway Parkway South, Flatlands East and West, and Seaview and Foster Avenues. Additionally, two more banners will be added at Canarsie Pier. While the mission remains constant, the banners symbolize the beginning of a new era through the name change. These banners signify a renewed sense of purpose and direction. There is much more to come in the future.

For the reveal, we were joined by merchant members, local organizations, community members and elected officials, Assemblywomen Monique Chandler-Waterman and Jaime Williams. We thank State Senator Roxanne Persaud and Councilwoman Mercedes Narcisse for sending a representative from their offices. The organizations that joined us were Brooklyn Chamber, CCDI, Hands of Excellence, My Time Inc and The Flossy Organization. Everyone was given an opportunity to share a few words. The reveal showed the banner with the new name, Canarsie Merchants Association. The intention behind the new name is to ensure inclusivity for every merchant within Canarsie. United in purpose, we all stood together, sharing a common vision to transform Canarsie into a go-to destination and enhance the community for the benefit of all. By embracing the name change, the Canarsie Merchants Association commits to building back better, stronger and together.
